Start with the stone, the chain and the photograph
A close-up of a pendant does not answer every question about the necklace you will receive. This guide shows how to read a listing: separate the stone measurements from the complete pendant, check whether a chain is included, and understand what a natural-pattern photograph promises. The worked examples below come from Awareness Avenue's own listings; this is our editorial guide, not an independent product test or a ranking of necklaces.
Moss agate is a chalcedony material recognized for branching or dendritic mineral inclusions. Because those internal patterns vary, compare the stone size, the setting and our variation wording as carefully as the design itself. Everything below describes the S925 Sterling Silver variant of each necklace; see the gold section for what changes when you switch the Jewelry Material selector.
Worked examples: reading the specification fields
The table is a reference for the specification fields discussed in this guide, using our live product descriptions checked on 26 October 2026 for the sterling silver variant. To browse the current range, use the moss agate necklace collection. A "Not specified" cell means that figure is not stated in the current description — contact us to request that detail before you order.

Stock versus made-to-order status is not published on these listings, so the 14-day window applies only if your item is a stock item. Ask us to confirm the status of your chosen design before ordering.
What the measurements and construction tell you
- Dainty versus statement size: Published stone sizes in this group run from a 6 x 8 mm teardrop to a 9 x 9 mm square and a 7 x 12 mm kite. Where a pendant dimension is published, it is larger than the stone itself because it includes the metal surround — the Botanical Embrace pendant measures 11 x 16.9 mm.
- Setting style: A prong setting holds the stone at points, leaving the girdle and corners more exposed to view and to contact; a bezel or full-frame setting surrounds the edge of the stone. Of the designs above, only the Starburst (prong), Celtic Knot (knot setting), Square Cut Halo (halo) and Basket-Weave Teardrop (basket weave) state a setting style, so check the product imagery and ask us if setting construction matters to you.
- Bail versus fixed chain: A pendant hung from a traditional bail slides along the chain and can rotate; a pendant attached to the chain at fixed points does not slide. These listings do not state which construction each design uses, so contact us if you need that detail.
- Stone pattern: The product descriptions state that no two stones are alike and that natural patterns vary. Treat the photograph as a design reference unless we separately confirm that it shows the exact stone assigned to your order.
- Chain length and neckline: Nine of these ten designs state an 18-inch chain with a 2-inch extender. That nominal length reaches from the princess range to the start of the matinee range below; it does not establish where the pendant will rest on your body. Where resting position matters, measure a necklace you already wear.
- Silver finish and tarnish: Sterling silver can tarnish or darken, and polishing can restore its brightness. The shared material section names rhodium and 18K gold vermeil across selections, but does not provide a component-by-component finish specification for the silver pendant, chain, clasp and extender. Confirm the exact finish before choosing a polishing method.
Silver, Gold Upgrades, and What the Selector Changes
Each necklace above is listed in S925 sterling silver and also offers "14K White Gold" and "18K White Gold" in the Jewelry Material selector. Two points matter before you switch that selector.
1. The accent stones can change with the metal. The Starburst listing states that all solid gold upgrades (14K, 18K) are set with premium D-Color Moissanite accents. The Botanical Embrace, Rectangular and Basket-Weave Teardrop listings likewise describe moissanite accents on 14K/18K gold upgrades, qualified as "where applicable" on Botanical Embrace and "if applicable" on the other two, and the Kite Harmony listing describes heavier construction and enhanced stone selection on the gold options, while Celtic Knot describes a heavy gold finish. The specifications and examples in the comparison table describe the sterling silver variant only; do not assume the stone package is identical on a gold variant.
2. Construction wording varies between listings. Some listings call the gold options "solid gold" upgrades, and we have not published component-level documentation separating solid gold from gold over silver for every selector. Some dedicated gold pages also retain shared silver-core wording. We are not treating those conflicted gold listings as verified recommendations here. Contact us to confirm the exact construction and accent-stone identity for the variant you intend to buy before ordering.
The terms used across the market mean different things:
- Sterling silver / 925: In US FTC consumer guidance, sterling silver contains 92.5% pure silver, and 925 denotes 925 parts per thousand.
- Rhodium-plated sterling silver: A sterling-silver base with a rhodium surface finish.
- Gold-plated sterling silver: A sterling-silver base with an applied layer of gold.
- Vermeil: Under the FTC Jewelry Guides, vermeil requires a sterling-silver base and gold of at least 10K, with a minimum equivalent fine-gold thickness of 2.5 microns on significant surfaces.
- Gold-filled: A construction distinct from both plating and vermeil under the same Jewelry Guides, and commonly used for chains elsewhere in the market.
- Solid gold: Gold alloy throughout the represented component, rather than gold over silver or another base metal.
- White gold: A gold alloy — not another name for rhodium-plated sterling silver.
Chain-Length Guide
Jewelers of America classifies necklace lengths as follows:
- Collar: 12–14 inches
- Choker: 14–16 inches
- Princess: 17–19 inches
- Matinee: 20–25 inches
- Opera: 26–36 inches
- Rope: 37 inches and longer
Actual resting position varies with neck size, pendant weight, and body proportions.
Natural Variation and Image Policy
- What the listings state: The descriptions state that no two stones are alike and that patterns vary. A listing photograph therefore does not promise that your stone will have the identical arrangement of inclusions.
- Expect variation in: pattern density, colour, translucency, and the placement of the inclusions.
- Exact-stone fulfilment: We have not published an exact-stone photography or stone-selection process for these designs. If you want to view or approve a specific stone before it ships, contact us before ordering so we can tell you whether that is possible for your chosen design.
- If you dislike the pattern: Returns follow the governing policy below — free US returns for eligible stock items requested within 14 days after receipt. Regular made-to-order items are exchange-only, and customised made-to-order items are final sale except for eligible defects or warranty claims.
Care
Follow product-specific care first. GIA says many colored gemstones can be cleaned with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft brush, followed by careful rinsing and drying. Use that method only after confirming it is compatible with your item's finish, setting and any treatment. Store the necklace separately to reduce scratching. Sterling silver can tarnish or darken; Jewelers of America notes that polishing can restore its brightness.
Returns, Warranty, and Production Time
Our governing refund policy provides free US returns for eligible stock items requested within 14 days after receipt. Initial shipping is not refunded, and refunds are processed within 3–5 business days after the returned item is received. Made-to-order products take 10–15 business days to produce; regular made-to-order items are exchange-only and customised made-to-order items are final sale except for eligible defects or warranty claims. The published lifetime warranty covers eligible manufacturing and craftsmanship defects and excludes improper use, accidents, and normal wear.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is a chain included?
Nine of the ten silver designs above state a chain in the listing, in each case an 18-inch chain with a 2-inch extender. The Starburst listing does not state chain details, so contact us to confirm before ordering.
2. Are the pendant and chain both sterling silver?
The listings describe the pieces as S925 sterling silver, and the Botanical Embrace and Rectangular listings specifically describe an S925 sterling silver chain. We have not published a component-level breakdown of pendant, chain, clasp and extender for every design, so contact us if you need that confirmed.
3. Will I receive the exact stone shown?
The listings state that no two stones are alike and that patterns vary, so the inclusions you receive may differ from the photography. We have not published an exact-stone fulfilment policy for these designs; contact us if that matters to your purchase.
4. Is the moss agate treated or dyed?
Our listings describe the stones as 100% natural moss agate. FTC guidance requires certain gemstone treatments to be disclosed when they are non-permanent, require special care, or significantly affect value. We have not published supplier treatment documentation alongside these listings; contact us to request it for a specific item.
5. What size is the stone and the complete pendant?
Published stone sizes in this group run from 6 x 8 mm to 9 x 9 mm, with a 7 x 12 mm kite and a 7 x 11 mm coffin column. Published pendant sizes are 11 x 16.9 mm (Botanical Embrace) and 10.5 x 20 mm (Rectangular). Remaining figures are not specified — see the table above.
6. What chain length should I choose?
Most of these necklaces come with an 18-inch chain plus a 2-inch extender, which falls in the princess range at 18 inches and reaches the start of the matinee range when fully extended. Measure a necklace you already wear comfortably to compare.
7. Will sterling silver tarnish?
Sterling silver can tarnish or darken; polishing can restore its brightness.
8. Is the necklace rhodium plated?
The shared material section names rhodium and gold-vermeil finishes across selections, but does not give a component-by-component finish specification for each silver necklace. Contact us to confirm the finish on your exact pendant, chain, clasp and extender.
9. Is it suitable for nickel-sensitive skin?
Our product copy describes these pieces as hypoallergenic and nickel-free, but that is our own listing wording and is not supported by published component-level composition or nickel-release testing. Nickel allergy is managed by avoiding nickel exposure, and the American Academy of Dermatology recommends nickel-free jewelry among lower-risk options. If you have a diagnosed sensitivity, contact us for component-level composition before ordering.
10. Can I wear it every day?
Moss agate is commonly reported at approximately 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale. Mohs hardness describes scratch resistance, not resistance to impact, fracture or setting failure, so careful handling and separate storage are still appropriate. Several listings recommend removing the necklace during heavy lifting or gym sessions.
11. How should I clean and store it?
Clean with warm water, mild dish soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry carefully — after confirming that method suits your item's finish and setting. Store separately to reduce scratching.
12. Is the necklace in stock or made to order?
Stock status is not published on these product pages. Contact us with the design you want to confirm availability and production time before purchasing.
13. What is the return window if I dislike the stone pattern?
The published policy provides free US returns for eligible stock items requested within 14 days after receipt. Regular made-to-order items are exchange-only, and customised made-to-order items are final sale except for eligible defects or warranty claims.
14. What does the lifetime warranty cover?
The published lifetime warranty covers eligible manufacturing and craftsmanship defects and excludes improper use, accidents, and normal wear.
15. What is the difference between gold plated, vermeil, and solid gold?
Gold-plated sterling silver has an applied gold layer over a silver base. Vermeil requires a sterling-silver base and gold of at least 10K, with a minimum equivalent fine-gold thickness of 2.5 microns on significant surfaces. Solid gold is gold alloy throughout the represented component. Ask us to confirm which construction applies to the gold option on any design above.
